A private money app I use myself (shown here with made-up data)

Personal finance ledger

My income varies, my accounts are in different places, and statements arrive as PDFs. It was built in five days (19 to 23 Oct 2026) and runs on its own: the bank sync each morning, the Sheet sync every 15 minutes, and a full refresh whenever a new statement arrives.

The review inbox

Every morning, new transactions wait in one inbox.

Confirm each one, fix its category, or save a rule so it's automatic next time. Possible duplicates are flagged before they count twice.

01Problem

The problem.

My income varies, my accounts are in different places, and statements arrive as PDFs. It was hard to see what was safe to spend and what was coming due.

02What I did

What I did.

I had Claude build a private app for my Mac and iPhone, and the pipeline behind it:

  • statement PDFs are read and each transaction is sorted into a category by ordered rules;
  • a read-only bank feed adds new transactions each morning;
  • a Google Sheet stays in step with the app, syncing both ways every 15 minutes.

The app has a daily review inbox: confirm each new transaction, fix its category, or save a rule so it's automatic next time. Checks confirm that every statement rebuilds to its ending balance and that the app agrees with the workbook.

03Result

The result.

It was built in five days (19 to 23 Oct 2026) and runs on its own: the bank sync each morning, the Sheet sync every 15 minutes, and a full refresh whenever a new statement arrives. It's personal, so no figures are shown here.
